The best info that I can think of: Start and end at the Eskridge Fire Station
100 block N. Main St
Check in on Saturday begins at 0700
We'll hook you up with directions
Short riders meeting at 0745
... Mass start at 0800
20 and 35 mile riders may take their sweet time.
80 mile riders must maintain 10mph average to Alma. That put's you in Alma by 1:00pm. I'll give you until 1:30pm. Yes I know, the math doesn't add up. That extra 30 minutes is a gift. If you fail to make it to Alma by 1:30, we would ask that you return the alternate route back to Eskridge.
Many riders will be toast by Alma. Know yourself! The next 30 miles will be much tougher than the first 50. If you're not feeling it, don't push it! Take the alternate route back to Eskridge. If you're totally wasted by Alma, we'll get you back to Eskridge.
You can plan on a little something to eat at the sag in Alma. Not a full meal, but maybe enough to help give the extra fuel you'll need to make it to the finish!

There will be plenty of sag support along the way and the course will be very well marked. I would still carry everything you need to make it to the end. Plan on the sag being there, but if there's an emergency, they may have to leave! Just saying...
Carry your cell phone for emergencies or in case you get lost. We'll ask for everyone's cell number at check in.

Please, please, please check in when you get back to the finish! If you call for a ride, let us know that you are leaving. This happens. If we can't account for every single rider, I'll have to break down and call the sheriff's office. We'll begin searching for those unaccounted for. This would not be cool!

Make sure you bring extra tubes! Or if you're tubeless, bring tubes! Bring something to air them up. Make sure you've got your basic tools. If you're going 80 miles, carry all the food and water you can pack. You know, DK style?

If I have caused any confusion, or if there are more questions, please ask! This event means a lot to me, and I want to make sure you have the best experience possible.

We are always trying to think of ways to improve Gravel Ride For Maisie's Pride. Things got a little confusing in Alma last year. Between having to sag at the gas station and getting back on course. We will have a sag in Alma, with sandwiches and whatever else my wife and the pool committee decide on. I personally know how toasted one can feel by the time they hit Alma, and it only gets worse Alma. So take a break in Alma, refuel, and get ready to climb. Then climb some more.

Gravel Ride For Maisie's Pride, Version 3.0

We are excited to bring you our 3rd annual Gravel Ride For Maisie's Pride.  This is a fundraising event, to help keep out local pool running.
Maisie Devore collected and recycled aluminum cans for 30 years, to realize her dream of a community swimming pool.  Maisie turns 94 soon!
For the first couple of years, I figured this event was a great training ride for Dirty Kanza 200.  It is indeed.  We also suggest training for Gravel Ride For Maisie's Pride.  Especially if you plan on riding the 74 mile route.  Only 74 miles you're thinking?  Take it from me, this isn't Driving Ms. Maisie.  Hills, hills, gravel and more hills.  We couldn't leave out Little Egypt.  Could we?  No way pal!
We will offer three distances: 20ish Miles
                                                    35ish Miles
                                                    74ish Miles
Each distance offer's hilly gravel covered roads.  Even the shorter distances offer their own particular set of challenges.  Shorter doesn't mean easy.   The 74ish mile ride has been described as "brutal."  I have to agree with that.  Most, if not all of the riders who take on this course, are planning on doing the Dirty Kanza 200.  Oh yeah baby, it's a challenge, to say the least!
Each course will be fully supported, and will have roving sags, to pick up stragglers.  Lunch will be provided after the ride.  I'll have to find out about the beer.  Much more information to come, like registration and course info.

There has been a little confusion as to which ride this actually is. This ride is in Eskridge, and not Baldwin City. Baldwin City will have a fine ride also, but I am pushing for Gravel Ride For Maisie's Pride. Also, it is a gravel road ride. Mountain bikes, hybrid, and cyclocross bikes will all work very well. Bring spare tubes and and a patch kit for what ever you ride. Please continue to ask questions. I'd hate for someone planning on Gravel Ride For Maisie's Pride to end up at the wrong ride.

START TIME!

Remember, we will be rolling out at 8:00 AM.  It was just brought to my attention that the wrong time is posted on Kansas Cyclist.  I say again, 8:00 AM.

Tuesday, May 8, 2012

Clarification: On site registration IS available, and begins at 7:00AM, at the pool. Instead of charging my friends and future friends extra for registering the day of the event, registration is still $35.00 day of the event. I will just be excited that you came.
